Prime Objective

So I have left the Macclesfield canal. I find myself back at Stoke. The main purpose of my visit to the Macc was to take a photograph of Milly M in a bridge hole.
DSCF7097I am not actually sure this is the right bridge but the other contender was inaccessible for this shot.

Is this the lovely Bridge 77 that there is a lovely painting of hanging on the wall of The Jolly Boatman, Maffi?

If the picture in the Jolly is of bridge 77 then yes this is that bridge. However I am thinking the pic in the Jolly is 43, but I am not sure.

There is a picture of Bridge 77 in the Nicholson's Waterways Guide Book No5 on page 153 which is identical to this one. It is at Congleton and interestingly they refer to it as 'a snake bridge'.
These delightful 'turnover bridges' were built where the tow-path changes sides. They are historic masterpieces, so beautifully designed and built to withstand the test of time.
