Why is simple stuff so fecking difficult. I am going to the Savoy from Brentford. Apparently I have to buy an Oyster Card or Travelcard.

As a visitor to London you have two options for tickets for the London Underground. These are Travel Cards and Oyster Cards. Read on for the benefits of each type of ticket and follow the links to purchase your tickets in advance.

I want a card for one day to travel in Zones 1,2,3,4,5. Cant be done according to the web page. Only Zones 1 & 2 have day tickets apparently.

Whatever happened to money?

You can still use 'proper money' and buy a 'paper ticket'...

"You can buy Day Travelcards for the following zones:

Zones 1-2*
Zones 1-4*
Zones 1-6
Zones 1-9
Zones 1-9 including Watford Junction
(*Only Anytime Day Travelcards are available for these zones).

Depending on the time of day you want to travel, different types of Travelcard are available:

Anytime Day Travelcards - these can be used for the whole day (using the date printed on the ticket), and for journeys starting before 04:30 the following day
Off-peak Day Travelcards are valid from 09:30 on the day of travel (using the date printed on the card), and for journeys starting before 04:30 the following day"

Hope that helps?

Get an oyster card - you can get your money back when you have finished with it. You cannot use cash on the buses anymore.

Money is expensive to account for. Cards transfer the cost and accountability to the customer. They also generate additional revenue in unclaimed credit.
You didn't assume the cards were introduced for the benefit of the customer? :-)

Mummy always said "When in London one must always stay at the Savoy."

Mummy also said if you must go down to the end of the town, you must go down with me, Maffi. Therefore I hope you have purchased means of travel for two people ...
BTW, we find the Oyster Card is good - the credit lasts forever and it's easy to top up with money from your account.
