It must be me reading it wrong!

Did you know there are 127 miles of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Correspondingly there should be 127 milestones. Well some are missing. There is a plan to replace those that are missing and refurbish those that need refurbishing. What a splendid idea!

There’s more!

The Mayor of Skipton Councillor Gordon Bell has pledged £36.600 to the project. Wonderful stuff! Thats a tad over £288 each milestone. I think you will agree that is a lot of money for a lump of rock with  a number on it and a few cans of  paint.

There’s more!

Now the CRT is seeking sponsors to donate upwards of £200 for each milestone restoration. That’ will be a total of £488 for each mile stone. I think you will agree that is a bigger lot of money for a lump of rock with  a number on it and a few cans of  paint.

There’s more!

CRT plans to allocate the work to volunteers. Nuff said! I’ll write a cheque……not.

That's £61,976...If the work is going to be done by volunteers they won't be paid.
If some need replacing and the rest need painting where will the rest of the money be spent?
An email to Richard Parry might stop this madness! Anyone?
