Theatre in the Dock

Once a year the dry dock at Tooley’s is closed for the week. The dock is drained, pressure washed, and dried out for the coming festivities. Once prepped the stage arrives. Lighting, sound and performers. Rehearsals begin.

The dock is 226 years old and is a Scheduled Monument.

This year Kate Saffin performed ‘Idle Women’. A 50 minute play about the women who took the places of those boatmen who went to fight in WWll. Heater Wastie read her poetry and sang with the squeeze box as did Phil Underwood.
