Waterways World

I had a phone call from Matt (the short one) at Tooley’s the other day. He told me there was a rather nice story in Waterways World about me on the letters page this month complete with picture. Well I am flattered, but it’s not about me, it’s really about the staff at Oxfordshire Narrowboats of which I am one small part. I wont go into details you will have to buy a copy if you are interested, but suffice to say I didn’t do anything that most boaters wouldn’t have done in the same circumstances, but it is nice to see that people are really appreciative.

So often someone’s time aboard can be spoilt by a small problem. I once used to have a boss who said “Don’t bring me your problems bring me the solution. This works well for most problems and I try to apply it.

A chap turned up at the yard a bit distressed that he had a water leak at both ends of his boat. Our engineer girlie type put a new seal in the engine water filler and that was sorted, I split the water pump at the front, greased the seal with Vaseline that too was sorted. Two days later he came back on his way home and said the leak had not reappeared. Reeeeeeesult!

Surely we all do what we can, well I like to think we do!

Hi Maffi

Great to meet you after reading about you and chatting at times on canalworld forum, well not so much chatting as listening in really, anyway great to see you in the flesh, I did read about your heroics for those poor unfortunate people that you rescued from Napton Boats, it was great to see that you were really appreciated, and the people in question took time to say a public thank you.
Maybe see you again when we pass this way. bye for now
